Catherine Monastery set beneath the

received the Ten Commandments has
been one of the world’s great
centers of religious pilgrimage for
over fifteen centuries. It was
constructed by order of the Emperor
Justinian between 527 and 565. It is
built around what is thought to be
Moses' Burning Bush, which has a
chapel
built atop it

its neighbor St. Paul's, are both Coptic Christian and are the oldest
inhabited monasteries in Egypt. It lies at the foot of Al-Qalzam
Mountain near Al Zaafarana, was founded in 356 AD just after the saint’s
death and is the oldest active monastery in the world
